Does Google Workspace charge GST in Australia?

Google Australia Pty Ltd bills Google Workspace customers in Australia. Google's contracting entity page lists Google Australia Pty Ltd as the Google Workspace entity for Australia, and it says the entity is set by the customer's billing address. If your billing address is in Australia, your contract and your invoices come from the Australian company.

Yes. The Australian Business Register shows Google Australia Pty Ltd, ABN 33 102 417 032, registered for GST from 4 October 2002. A GST-registered business charges GST at 10 per cent on taxable sales, so the GST is part of what you pay for each Workspace licence.

Yes, if your business is registered for GST and you use Workspace for the business. The ATO lets you claim a GST credit on your BAS when four things are true.

• You are registered for GST.
• You use the purchase solely or partly for your business.
• The price included GST.
• You hold a tax invoice from the supplier, for purchases over $82.50.

Download each month's invoice from the billing section of your Google Admin console and keep it with your records. If you use Workspace partly for personal email, claim only the business share.

Check the billing address in your Google Admin console. Google sets the billing entity from that address, so an overseas address can mean an overseas Google company bills you. Changing it to your Australian business address keeps the invoice in line with your BAS. Ask your accountant if you are unsure how to treat an older invoice.
